The Mandate

Hatwit International is conducting an Executive Search mandate for a well-established international organisation in the insurance sector.

The mandate is focused on strengthening the organisation’s Corporate Underwriting capability, combining technical underwriting excellence, disciplined portfolio management and leadership of a specialist team.

The role also sits within a broader transformation context, with a focus on modernising underwriting practices, increasing digitalisation and improving operational effectiveness while maintaining strong risk discipline and sustainable portfolio performance.

The Role

The position is a senior management role in Corporate Underwriting, combining significant technical responsibility with broad accountability for the relevant portfolio and team.

The role will contribute directly to the organisation’s underwriting direction, including the assessment and management of complex corporate risks, portfolio quality and profitability, underwriting discipline and technical standards.

A significant leadership component involves strengthening technical capability across the function, developing the team and ensuring consistency and quality in underwriting decision-making.

The Leadership Mandate

Provide strategic and technical leadership across Corporate Underwriting.
Ensure disciplined risk selection, underwriting quality and sustainable portfolio profitability.
Oversee the assessment and management of complex corporate risks.
Strengthen portfolio management, technical standards and underwriting governance.
Lead, coach and develop a team of specialist underwriting professionals.
Contribute to the transformation of the underwriting function through process modernisation, digitalisation and increased operational efficiency.
Strengthen collaboration between underwriting, commercial and other relevant technical functions.

Leadership Profile

We are looking for a senior professional combining strong Corporate Underwriting expertise with strategic perspective, business judgement and portfolio ownership.

Relevant experience should include exposure to complex corporate risks and a strong understanding of the relationship between risk selection, pricing, portfolio performance and sustainable business development.

The profile should also demonstrate experience in leading and developing specialist teams, together with the ability to build effective working relationships across commercial and technical functions.

Particularly relevant will be leaders able to influence decisions beyond their direct area of responsibility, reconcile different business and risk perspectives and create alignment around balanced solutions.

Experience contributing to underwriting transformation, process improvement, digitalisation or capability building would be an important advantage.

We are particularly interested in leaders who combine technical credibility with portfolio perspective and sound business judgement, and who can contribute to the continued evolution of the underwriting function.
